Tom Hiddleston earns the next main movie role.

Tom Hiddleston has booked his next lead role in Tenzing.

The new film is based on the true account of Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who, with Edmund Hillary, reached the peak of Mount Everest in 1953.

Deadline claims that Hiddleston will play Hillary, with Willem Dafoe from Poor Things as expedition leader Colonel John Hunt.

The film will be directed by Jennifer Peedom, who previously directed the documentary Sherpa, and written by Lion's Luke Davies.

Norgay's remarkable journey saw him defy the odds and reach the peak of Everest after attempting the climb six times before, all while negotiating challenging politics and hard weather.

"I could not be more thrilled to be bringing Tenzing Norgay's story to the screen," Peedom stated.

"I've been working on this film my entire career, and I'm really thankful to Tenzing's family for entrusting me with it.

"I'm thrilled to collaborate with See-Saw Films and our incredible ensemble to bring this story to life.
