Shakira had an electrifying Met Gala debut—literally. The singer arrived at the event in a Carolina Herrera gown with a high slit and a voluminous cloak that cascaded down the Met steps. She had her hair in loose waves.
The night's dress code was "The Garden of Time" in honor of the museum's "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion" exhibit.
Believe it or not, Shakira had never attended a Met Gala before this year.
She fueled suspicions over the weekend that she could attend, possibly dressed in Versace, when she wished designer Donatella Versace a happy birthday on Instagram.
Following her breakup from Gerard Piqué, the musician has been in the process of reinventing herself. She chatted with ELLE in September 2022 about how she was handling her life after the terrible era.
"Every time life tests you, I think that you always find a helping hand that you can hold on to while you cry," she said.
"I believe that even when you feel as if you're plunging into an abyss with no end, there is always a safety net at the bottom. Family and friends constitute the safety net.
And if you've done everything correctly, you'll find a helping hand. And friendship, they say, is the purest form of love, and possibly the most lasting.
