Patriots mentioned as trade site for former Tom Brady teammate

The New England Patriots passed on hefty trade offers and selected former North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the No. 3 overall choice last month's NFL Draft.

NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry suggested that the Patriots give their rookie quarterback a more reliable alternative to throw to on the field.

Perry predicts the Tampa Bay Buccaneers may trade veteran pass-catcher Chris Godwin before the 2024 season after drafting former University of Washington WR Jalen McMillan.

Perry said the Patriots should pursue Godwin "because even if he's not a true No. 1, he'd be your No. 1 if you're the New England Patriots."

Now that Maye is a likely Patriots franchise quarterback, the team must find receivers for him.New England's wide receivers have never caught an NFL pass or didn't reach 50 catches in

Godwin had 83 catches for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games with Tampa Bay last season. He turned 28 in February and has had 1,000 receiving yards in four of the last five seasons.

Godwin would be an immediate boost over the Patriots' other wide receivers and ease Maye's NFL adjustment.
