The NBA announced Thursday that Bucks guard Patrick Beverley would be suspended for four games without pay for throwing a basketball at fans multiple times and for a "inappropriate interaction" with ESPN producer Malinda Adams following Milwaukee's season-ending loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 6 of their first-round series last week.
Indianapolis police stated on Wednesday that they were initiating an inquiry into "an NBA player and citizen" confrontation after Beverley tossed a ball three times in the fourth quarter of the Pacers' 120-98 loss at Gainbridge Fieldhouse a week ago.
Beverley was seen tossing a ball into the bleachers, where it struck a spectator in the head. After asking for the ball back and receiving it, he shot it back at the supporter.
Police said in a news statement that the case has been referred to investigators "who are currently investigating this situation and take all accusations seriously," and that the case will be given to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office once the investigation is complete.
In an episode of "The Pat Bev Podcast" broadcast Wednesday, Beverley stated that he was called a name he had never heard before, but that his own acts were "still inexcusable."
He will lose around $90,000 as a result of the ban if he gets a minimum deal again next season, which is expected to be $3.3 million, according to ESPN's Bobby Marks.
After the game, Beverley refused to answer Adams' questions in a locker room group interview.
Beverley stated on his podcast Wednesday that he has asked reporters who have interviewed him since the show's inception. Beverley claims he informed Adams that "it was never my intention to disrespect you."
