Kevin Costner Previews Western Epic Horizon: An American Saga at CinemaCon.

Kevin Costner is revealing more about Horizon: An American Saga, his two-part film.

On April 9, Warner Bros. presented new titles at CinemaCon 2024 in Las Vegas, featuring the 69-year-old star, co-writer, and director of the Civil War-set westerns. Chapter 1 opens June 28 in theatres, followed by Chapter 2 on Aug. 16.

“I think about the promise of America,” Costner stated onstage. There was a promise out here that if you were tough, mean, resourceful, or lucky, you could take anything you wanted in America.

“That promise meant that we stepped on a whole group of people that had been here for thousands of years,” he said of Native Americans. Horizon encompasses that struggle, he remarked. “If you could survive the west,

you could make a home at the expense of many things. I consider that drama.”

Costner said Horizon features his 15-year-old son Hayes, who he shares with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. After conceiving of the role in 1998, Costner played Hayes Ellison in the movies 'to get this movie done'.

Horizon is really important to me. "It's the hardest thing I've ever done, but I want to do it," Costner told PEOPLE in 2022.
