President Biden claimed on Wednesday that inflation was 9% when he took office in January 2021
despite the fact that the consumer price index (CPI) was only 1.4% at the time.
"No president has had the run we've had in terms of creating jobs and bringing down inflation," Biden told CNN's Erin Burnett in an interview.
"It was 9% when I came to office - 9%."Biden has already mentioned this idea. In April, the president stated, "Look, we have dramatically reduced inflation from 9% to close to 3%.
" We're in a better position now than when we started office, when inflation was rising."
However, under Biden's leadership, inflation rose from 1.4% to 9.1% in June 2022.
While it has already fallen to 3.5% as of March 2024, it remains significantly higher above the Federal Reserve's target rate of 2%.
According to a Fox News poll from March, only 38% of Americans approve of Biden's economic policies.
